I would rather buy a gemstone ring from a road seller after looking,  touching it,  the stone that draws me towards it than a branded one. I have purchased many gemstones from branded designer stores that give authenticity certificate, its a small card, like visiting business card,  having the details of the colour, carat shape size of gemstone and name or code number. You have to keep this certificate of authenticity for reselling in case you wish to. Jewelers also give you bill for these stones. I have also purchased stones online that are cheap, but sadly had to return them cause they were looking like ordinary stones and also the sizes are some what misleading from images and details descriptions written there. I always make it a point to write correct details on my website for selling my art because that is the only way buyers can know the exact size of paintings available for sale. I prefer to buy gemstones and stone jewelry from Amazon as they have easy refund and cancellation process.
